Your Shout Supermarket giant Tesco has signed a £5million deal with the Spice Girls to sponsor their world tour.
he band will also star in two TV adverts for the company – whose slogan is Every Little Helps – in a bid to boost sales during the Christmas period.
Victoria Beckham and Mel C, both 33, Geri Halliwell, 35, Mel B, 32, and Emma Bunton, 31, will rake in a cool £1m each from the agreement.
Insiders say Tesco is on the verge of announcing the deal, which will see the girls go head-to-head with fellow reformed group Take That, who are modelling for Marks & Spencer.
The tone of the Tesco ads is said to be “tongue-in-cheek” and they are likely to be shown in the next few weeks.
Mel C yesterday laughed off reports that the girls have been arguing recently, telling ITV1’s This Morning: “At the moment it’s a bit of a lovefest.
“We haven’t been together for a long period of time and there are going to be ups and downs because everybody’s very strong as an individual. But right now we’re all very excited and enjoying each other’s company.
“I was nervous about the chemistry, whether we still had that magic – but when we did the launch in the summer it was there.
“I just felt the buzz and that’s when I really started to get excited.
“And now we’re talking creatively, the band are already rehearsing and we’ve seen some of the choreography and the costumes.
“We feel we want to have the same energy and magic that we had but move it on and evolve – bigger, better Spice Girls.”
Marketing experts say Tesco may be taking a risk with the girl group as, unlike Take That, it is not yet clear how their reunion will pan out. Tesco refused to comment on the deal.
