Preparations for the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in Bracciano, Italy.
The Hollywood couple are set to marry on Saturday at a medieval castle in the town, 40km north of Rome. Camera crews and photographers were setting up their equipment in Bracciano's main square, and messages of goodwill were in place in shop windows. Enterprising locals with apartments boasting views of the castle put up signs advertising their homes for rent. One private terrace overlooking the likely route into the castle and the internal car park was offered to a TV news agency for _100,000 (?68,000). The Bracciano City Hall is renting windows of a nearby building, which has a view of the castle entrance, for _1,000 (?680) each. Cruise, 44, and Holmes, 27, made an appearance in Rome on Wednesday night, sparking a paparazzi scrum as they headed out for dinner with the city's mayor. Celebrity guests began to arrive at Rome's Ciampino airport on Thursday ahead of the big day. Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez, Jada Pinkett Smith and Mission: Impossible III director JJ Abrams were among the first to arrive. Others expected include David and Victoria Beckham and Brooke Shields, who Cruise had a public spat with last year over their opinions on the use of medication to treat post-natal depression. The wedding day is widely expected to be spectacular, with opera star Andrea Boccelli serenading the bride.
